Lecture 2: What kind of virtualization WinCC V7 supports?

Virtualization in the industry today...

The world of industrial programming is becoming more and more complicated. Each of the PLC, SCADA, HMI, and robot manufacturers generates a new software version each year. Not all development environments work together. Even software from one supplier often excludes each other, making storage difficult and making management a nightmare before you even switch to programming. New software installations may cost several days. And now try to add to the whole team (e.g. 10 people) dealing with support of devices delivered in the last 20 years.

As an engineer, I discovered an approach that will help meet these challenges: virtual machines. The virtual system is much simpler to store, move, and use. It is simpler to maintain a 32-bit virtual machine than a 20-year-old laptop with appropriate installations. Save time by installing things once and sharing them with the team. And if something goes wrong, it’s easy to get back to the working version.
